The 2nd Deshpande-Gopalakrishnan Symposium on Innovation and Entrepreneurship was held at IIT Bombay from 20 - 22 January 2019. It was a gathering of academicians, entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, investors and policy-makers who were focused on promoting and accelerating innovation and entrepreneurship across the academic environment.
Over 134 delegates participated in the symposium that provided them the opportunity to learn from each other’s experiences; to gain wider exposure for their ideas, successes and start-ups; and to collaborate on activities that increase innovation and entrepreneurship in academic communities.
Eminent speakers and panellists from all over the world addressed the gathering for the four keynote and five panel sessions. Four scintillating keynotes were delivered by Mr. Arun Kumar, Chairman & CEO, KPMG India; Mr. D. Shivakumar, Group Executive President - Strategy, AV Birla Group; Dr. Kerry Healey, President, Babson College; and Mr. Ashank Desai, Founder, Mastek.
The panel sessions provided thought provoking dialogues on five themes:
· Entrepreneurship Curriculum Models
· Building an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Academic Institutes - Challenges and Solutions
· The Experience of I-NCUBATE participants
· Crossing the Valley of Death - Views of Investors and Entrepreneurs; and
· Sparking Innovation through Industry-Academia Partnerships
Dr. Gururaj Deshpande and Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan engaged in an inspiring dialogue for the delegates at the closing session on 22 January. The three-day program ended with a Valedictory delivered by Prof. Anand Kusre, IIT Bombay and Mr. Raghuttama Rao, CEO - GDC.
